Pastor Daniel’s Pick Of The Week
This week’s selection is interesting because instead of one song, it is a medley of three different songs: All We Need, Give Us Clean Hands, and YThere are days when I just want to sit in the car and drive around and listen to the music; just the music; no lyrics just the rhythm and the beat and contemplate how the musicians were able to compose such sounds. And most of us understand what I’m saying, there are just days when I do not want to care about the lyrics, there are days when I just do not want to think. Enough with the thinking already, let me feel, let me have the beats go through me so that I may feel relaxed, pleasantly happy, and satiated about life. We don’t realize how powerful music can be sometimes, we don’t realize that if we don’t consider what we may think about music how it affects us both body and spirit.
Thus Paul writes: “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds.” He is saying the organism for our change and transformation starts with our minds: how we think, what we think, and especially why we think. We get so weighed down about life’s turmoil that we just want release. But release from what and to what? No one thinks in those terms even though that is how we are wired to think and feel. If we do not engage our minds into consciously considering Christ in our everyday moments then we are consciously engaged in centering our thoughts on what satisfies us in the moment; satiates our pleasures; and indulge our sinful nature.
