YB TE’s Pick of the Week
I am a sinner; depraved, vile, and wretched beyond measure. All good works that I so often believe are righteous in the eyes of God are but filthy rags. I justly deserve the wrath of God. But, God sent his son, Jesus Christ, to live a sinless perfect life, only to be nailed to a cross, taking my sins and receiving the divine punishment that only I deserved.
If I have truly repented and believed in this good news, then I must believe that Christ will hold me fast. I am held fast, or tightly secured, by his life death and resurrection. This is good news.
I pray that this song encourages us to be utterly amazed by the grace of our God and to remind ourselves again of the glorious gospel. I hope that we do not trust ourselves or our works, but to cling fully to Christ and his promises.
“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?” (Romans 8:31-35 ESV)
